Bhutan's art and architecture, including music, dance, folklore and story telling are an integral part of the every-day culture of the people and form a tapestry within which the Bhutanese people live. At the same time, the surprising ethnic diversity of this small country offers great variety.
Arrival in Paro. Register at Hotel. Relaxation and Introductory lecture.
Lecture, followed by visit to National Museum and Paro Dzong. Drive through Paro Valley, visiting traditional farm house and temple. Traditional music and dance performance in evening.
Transfer to Thimphu. City tour. Evening performance demonstrating modernization of traditional music and performance.
Mask Dance by Royal Academy of Performing Arts and discussion with dancers. Visit to traditional paper factory and discussion with director. Handicraft emporium. Evening: traditional poetry and story telling and the development of video and film in Bhutan.
Visit to architectural monuments. Royal Painting School. Evening: Discussion with Bhutanese and foreign architects working in Thimphu
Site visit to study traditional temple architecture, art, and iconography. Meeting with artists, including children. Evening: Discussion of Bhutanese art and architecture in the Himalayan context.
Drive to Paro and departure. |
